Privacy policy

All of it is held in a database inside the app on your device:

• The name and avatar you give each child, their school year and the curriculum you picked for them.
• The spelling lists you type in, and any test dates you set.
• Practice and test results: which words were right, which were wrong, scores, levels, gems, badges and streaks.
• Settings, such as the voice, the appearance and which reminders are switched on.

Use a first name or a nickname. Nothing in the app needs a surname, a date of birth, an email address, a school name or a photograph, and there is nowhere to put one. The app never asks for contacts, the camera, the photo library, the microphone or location, so iOS never prompts you for them.

So the iPad and the phone stay in step, the app syncs through your own iCloud account, using Apple’s CloudKit. The data goes into your account’s private area, held by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. It is not a Createful server, we have no administrator’s view of it, and we cannot read it.

If you would rather it stayed on one device, turn Spellings off under iCloud in iOS Settings. The app keeps working on that device.

You can share your family with someone else, so a second parent sees the same children and the same progress. That uses Apple’s own sharing: you send an invitation from the app, and Apple sets up the link between the two iCloud accounts. We are not part of that exchange and never see who you shared with.

Your parent PIN is not shared. It lives in the keychain on the device it was set on, is never synced, and is stored as a hash rather than as the digits you chose.

Words and sentences are spoken by the voices already on your device, through Apple’s built-in speech. The app sends nothing away to do it. It has no microphone access, records no audio, and never listens to your child.

Reminders are local notifications, scheduled by iOS on the device itself, and they all start switched off. There is no notification service of ours involved, because we do not have one. Turning them off in the app, or in iOS Settings, removes the ones already scheduled.

Purchases and subscriptions run entirely through Apple’s App Store. You pay Apple, not us. We never see your card, your billing address or your Apple Account. The app only checks, on your device, whether a valid purchase exists. We receive no personal data from Apple about who bought what.

The app occasionally asks whether you would like to rate it. That prompt is Apple’s own: Apple decides whether it appears and handles anything you submit. We never see your rating or your review, and the prompt sits behind the parent gate.

There is no analytics library, no advertising library, no crash reporting service and no software development kit from any other company in the app. Google Analytics and Firebase were removed in September 2026 and the Firebase project was deleted.

We do not sell, rent or share personal information, because we do not have any to sell. The App Store listing says Data Not Collected, and that is the whole of it.

Crash reports, if you have chosen to share them with developers in iOS Settings, go to Apple and reach us through Apple’s own tools. They describe how the app failed, not who was using it.

Spellings is made for primary school children and set up by a parent. Word lists, settings, purchases and links out of the app sit behind a parent gate, so a child on their own cannot spend money or reach the web.

Because nothing is collected, transmitted to us or disclosed to anyone, there is no personal information for a parent to ask us to hand over or erase, and none for us to verify consent against. That is the point of building it this way. Rules such as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act in the United States and the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation exist to govern data that leaves a child’s device. None does here.

• One child: delete them from the Family screen, and their tests, scores and progress go with them.
• Everything: Delete all family data, at the bottom of Settings, asks twice and then removes every child, test, score and record from the device and from iCloud, including on the devices of anyone you shared the family with. It cannot be undone.
• The app: deleting it removes what is on that device. Data already in iCloud stays until you delete the family data first, or remove the app’s data under iCloud in iOS Settings.

This website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read, but only if you allow it in the cookie notice shown on your first visit. Say no and nothing is loaded. Say yes and Google sets cookies that measure how the site is used, as described in Google’s partner sites policy. The choice you make covers all of apps.createful.com, not just the Spellings pages. The full details are in the site privacy page. None of this touches the app.

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be noted in the app’s release notes.
